Speakers don't work, headset does?

I bought a new hard drive and everything works but the external speakers.. The headset works fine

Do you mean the headset connector in the CD drive works OK, but the speakers plugged in to the PC base unit don't?

If so it sounds like you don't have the sound driver installed.
