Warm air heating flue problem?

I have just moved house and the house that I have moved into has a Johnson and Starley Hi Spec 32 warm air heating system (which I suspect is probably 30 years old) which wasn't working.
I called out a British Gas engineer ( I have a Homecare agreement) and they told me that there were 'many faults on the appliance and a hole in the flue'
The engineer capped and isolated the unit because the flue could not be repaired and reccomended that I have it stripped out and a new 'wet' system installed.
My question is why can't the flue be repaired?
I've checked on the Johnson and Starley website and parts for the warm air unit are still readily available.
Thankyou in advance for any help.

i have a warm air system and British Gas engineer told me that the system was o.k but are told to say parts are hard or not available any more and to invest in a new system they're on a cmmision.

bg engineers are usually on commission also don't like problem appliances and will often condemn appliances that can be repaired as you say i can't see why your system can't be repaired ask for a full explaination in writing be prepared for bullsh*t re safety etc
