Fixing my Semi Acoustic Guitar?

I have a semi acoustic guitar but the "semi" bit doesn't work. Its built like a basic hollow acoustic guitar and I'm pretty confused when it comes to pick ups. I mea where do they even go?

Anyway, if anyone can help I would be very greatfull!

i think my bridge sits too high the strings seem to be a bit of a distance away from the neck can i reduce its size and would it impair the performence

It depends on the guitar type, you may have a pick up that requires a 9v battery or you may not know that you have to plug this instrument into an amplifier.

What make and model is it to start with. What does not work, the pickup, preamplifier, lead to your amp, or some other bit of devilry? If you have no visible pickup have no fear as many guitars have a transducer [ a pickup ] built into the bridge or neck.
