Would a 400w bulb in a 300w floodlight mean it no longer switches off?

I recently removed a 300w lamp from my floodlight (PIR linked). I replaced it with the only lamp I could find of 400w.
It works ok as a light but has recently stopped switching itself off after the normal 2 minute window.
Is there a link with bulb power or should I look at other reasons for the lamp not extinguishing?

if its a pir controlled floodlight, all in one unit, then the relay has frozen on,nothing to do with the bulb,as these can take 500 watt bulbs

yes there is a link,do you have a seperate pir controller?if you have, it must be rated at the wattage of the bulbs you are using, most pirs are rated at 100 0 watts,if they control 500 watt flood lights
