sometimes a broken piece of the tape can get jammed against the switch or the spring in the switch can loosen,try shaking the vcr and listen for any debris inside,if nothing is found then turn vcr upsidedown switch it on and see if the light is still indicating full,if it is not then the switch spring has come loose or broke.
