garden patio door is locked,the handel just spins,after taking the handl off,noticed where the spindel goes is broken,instead of being square it round ,i can c bits of metal around it,also can c spring mechnism,do i need a locksmith to drill the lock barrel ,which may open the security mechanism ,then i can decide what to do ,the door is upvc

undo the two screws on the handle and take off,use a big headed flat scew driver in the hole that spindle sits in and unlock,the springs you are seeing is a small plasic ad on that slips over spindle to give the handle more springing power,these can be purchased cheap enough when you buy a new square bar(spindle)
itake the bar with you to the shop as these come in a number of sizes and some are split in half depending on your door,hope this helps.
ps the barrel has nothing to do with the handle so dont let a lock smith drill it out at your cost
