Is it safe to floor over downlights in the loft?

Hi there

We have just had our loft partially floored by a joiner but he has floored over the existing downlights which serve the rooms below. Is this safe? If not what should I be asking the tradesman to do to put it right? With thanks.

you should install fire protective hoods over the fitting in the loft these are relatively cheap and check for manufacturers guidelines for clearances around the fitting

I would think it's quite safe as long as the loft insulation is cleared around each light 1st. I have had halogen downlights ,covered by flooring for a year with no probs
