Potterton Metaheat - CH radiators work only when HW is on?

I have a Potterton Metaheat. It is controlled by a Potteron EP2000 type controller with a thermostat in the living room. We had trouble with the CH in general and I removed the cover of the controller to investigate - and some of the copper sliders are now slightly bent. However, we do get Hot Water timed ok - but for some reason the cental heating only comes on when the HW is on and is no longer regulated by the thermostat. It stays on all the time the HW is on. Anyonw know what my problem could be. I may have slightly damaged the CH & HW slides on the controller. Is there a way to fix this? Also - does the thermostat wiring feed into the controller or into the Boiler?
Many thanks

Get a new programer. EP2002 should be suitable. Check your motorised valves. These will be in beside the hot water tank and pump. There may be 1 3 port or 2 2ports. Microswitches fail sometimes. On a 2 2port system this means that the valve opens up but the pump and boiler will not come on. To check this find the control box, this is within 2 feet of the valves. Open it up and remove the 2 orange wires (remember where they came from). Separate them and turn on HW and CH. Check for 240v from each wire to earth. If you get 240v then the microswitch on the valve it goes to is ok. If not then replace the valve head.
