how can i retune my on digital box didnt retune for the switchover and now its not picking up the freeview channels

I'm afraid that it never will now.

Look at it this way: you have had that box for well over ten years now and that is a lifetime for consumer electronics. I'd take the opportunity to buy a nice new Freeview box for under twenty quid. You may even consider an HD box.
