A fixed aerial socket on a piece of equipment can either be firmly fixed to the chassis or just poked through a hole and held in place by soldering it to a circuit board.

It's easier and cheaper to solder the socket in place - trouble is that it can easily get knocked and damaged. It would not be unusual for the solder to fracture - the socket to become loose and connection to be lost.

If this happens it's often possible to re-solder the internal connections - obviously the covers need to be removed and even more dissembling to get to the underneath of the circuit board. The physical shock may have caused other damage such as lifted printed circuit track but this is relatively easy to repair.

You will need Soldering Iron - Screwdrivers - Confidence

Alternatively you might connect the aerial to its socket and wobble it about until you get a signal and then poke small items into the gap to wedge things tight and stop them moving - not a very satisfactory method.

Good luck...
