Mitsubishi HSB52 Pinch Head Roller Adjustment?

Hi,
I have a Mitsubishi HSB52 VCR (one of the finest machines ever made).

I now have a problem whereby the pinch roller assembly does not drop down the worm screw assembly to the correct height in order to engage the tape.

I can "assist" it manually by pushing down during the descent - and the tape plays fine. Otherwise it sits a bit high and doesn't go in the way to meet the tape.

Any help appreciated.

Also check the half loading arm is moving freely (swinging lever with tape guide post, on upper side between take up reel and pinch unit.), as the felt pad can detatch and jam the mechanism.

Is this the pressure roller unit with central collar fitted to the assembly?

If it is, I think they modified that roller, the modified pinch roller identifiable by a light blue collar. Seem to remember part of the plastic tended to snap off due to the tension in the spring. Check the plastic body of the pinch roller assembly very thoroughly, sometimes the fracture is not at all obvious.
