how to use an optic mouse?

I have a spare optic mouse, how do I set it up so I can use my computer in another room

Older mouses where not optical, but it's almost impossible to find those these days. If your mouse is less than 12 years old, then, IT'S optical.

It must be noted that the range of a wireless mouse is short, and that any intervening obstacles, such as a wall, will very probably make any connection impossible.

It's always better to have the computer located in the room where it's been used. It's possible to have a computer in another room, but usually not practical.

All mouse devices are Optic - some connect with a wire and a USB connector - others connect wirelessly with no wire - you do not say which type of mouse you have.

If it's a wired mouse you just plug it in - if it's a wireless mouse there's a little gizmo - a wireless receiver that pugs into a USB socket on the computer.

As for using your computer in another room the flippant answer is to take the machine to the room you want it to be in. You will have some form of routing device that connects to the computer through a cable - very rare these days - or wirelessly - the more usual method.
