Emerson EWV404 VCR: SP/SLP?

I just bought this vcr and it says that it is currently set on the SP speed. But, after two hours I ejected my vhs tape and it looks like the tape is only half way through playing. I checked the funai-corp website, which is where you need to go to see the specs for this machine. But it didn't help me. In fact, it tells me that my vcr has three speeds, but the instructions say only two speeds. Does anyone know what the deal is with the speeds for this machine? I'm only using it to play tapes to record over onto dvd-r. Thanks.

The speed at which any VCR plays is set by the speed at which the cassette was recorded. I suspect that the cassette you tried was recorded at EP if it was only half read (or SLP if it was one third read). The VCR switches itself to suit the tape.

My problem is that I have somehow set mine to, I think, PAL instead of NTSC and haven't found the way to set it back. Somewhere I don't quite understand the instructions.
