replace a dimmer switch with a simple on/off switch?

i changed a bedroom dimmer switch with a simple on/off one. this didnt work and tripped its associated RCD.

the wires are coloured red and blue, which a pressume are the live and neutral.

with both wires disconnected and hanging in free space, the rcd still trips.

you will prob find that blue is not neutrall and is a phase colour meaning it is a switch live put red cable in top of switch or common terminal and blue in bottom terminal this should work n not trip there should b no neutrall at light switch if there is they will b on a connecter block n pushed to the back of the box make sure eart wire is not touching if there is one presant

You appear to have induced a fault when you installed the switch. As you seem to have limited knowledge of mains electricity I suggest that you call and electrician in before something bad occurs.
