metal ceiling lights?

connecting a metal ceiling light - i have just bought a new lounge light which is all metal, but my old light is plastic, the metal light has got an extra earthing wire on it but i do not know where to fix this to, can someone explain what i need to do please.

Except that what techboy has told you to do at your own risk is illegal in the UK. If you don't care about the law, think of this: If someone later on up a ladder to change the bulb got a shock and fell of the ladder that would (or should) be on your conscience.

this must be connected to earth.
contact an electrician to install an eath wire
to the ceiling rose.
if the metal fitting is well out of reach you could fit the
fitting without the earth, at your own risk.

You connect it to to the earth wire (UK green/yellow) in the ceiling rose. If you do jot have an earth wire you need the rose rewired with new cable with an earth circuit. (In the UK, by law, this has to be done by a 'Competent Person' i.e. an electrician.) Alternatively do not use the metal fitting as to do so without an earth is potentially dangerous
