How do i unlock my lab top dell 620?

I'm trying to get to my desktop and i done bought the computer from someone and they is nowhere to be found and i need a password to get to the desktop.

is it a bios password you're talking about? (i.e. the computer doesn't even boot to windows) or is it windows password?

if it's a bios password, it will be a problem. dell d620 uses a chip to store bios password, so you will need to replace/reprogram the chip to get into this laptop. it's quite a fiddly job as the chip is very small.

if it's a windows password, you can use freeware password reset utilities. I use http://home.eunet.no/~pnordahl/ntpasswd/. there are other tools available, search google for "windows password reset".

I really don't think that telling people how to unlock dodgy sounding laptops is a good way to discourage theft of them.

Those passwords are so that people can't get into some one else's machine. Often they are deeply embedded in the hardware and the only fix is a new motherboard. This is done deliberately so as to make them less attractive to thieves. I suggest that you find the person that you bought it from and/or don't buy expensive stuff from people you don't know.
