Black screen for xbox 360?

When i turn my xbox 360 on, i hear the sound, but the screen is black, and ive doon everything right(turn on tv...set to tv...plugged things in right....etc...) and i would rather fix it myself than pay the 100 dollars for microsoft to fix it. ANY IDEAS???

might sound daft but have you set the switch to either HD tv or normal no HD tv?. if this is set to HD and its not a HD tv it just wont work, like you have explained.
