How to fix a halogen torchiere?

After a while, my halogen torchiere lamps don't work any more, even if fitted with brand new bulbs. Does any one know why? Also, one lamp will go on for about 5-10 minutes, then shuts itself off.

These are the cheapo lamps sold at Home Depot, etc. for about $15-20. I don't want to just dump them. What a waaste!

Hoang, There are a couple of reasons. One. I take it that the lamp is of the low voltage variety,is that the transformer built in is more than likely the culprit. The real inexpensise models that you buy have a very cheap and tempermental transformer. Basically is almost cheaper to buy a new lamp than replace the transformer. The other being the sockets themselves being very cheaply made. Stay away from a bargain light. You get what you pay for and a lamp should be an investment that will last you and serve that purpose for which it was bought for. Hope that helps!
