Restore Laptop Image to Desktop?

I have a Laptop PC which works much better than my Desktop PC. Windows on my Desktop PC is a bit stuffed.

I have Acronis True Image and can make an image file of my Laptop's C: Drive. I have tried to restore an image of my Laptop's C: Drive on my Desktop. When I boot it crashes with a STOP: 0x0000007E error. I have tried to run in Safe Mode. I have tried to run a Windows Repair Install and boot in Safe Mode. Nothing works.

Can I restore an image of a Windows XP Home partition on another PC? (I do have Windows Licences for both machines.)

A laptop image will have all the wrong hardware drivers for a desktop and vice versa.

On top of that many OEM versions of Windows are keyed to the OEM's equipment.

Not knowing what you mean by: 'Windows on my Desktop PC is a bit stuffed.' it is bit difficult to help further.

However if you are suffering from performance problems, that question has been asked and answered many times and so I suggest a quick search of all the answers here.
