How can I fix my nextar digital mp3 player?

My sons unit only plays the first 10 seconds or so of a song, then skips to the next one. I have deleted and replaced all the files once. Should I jus get my kid a new one?

when i turn my nextar mp3 player on it freezes an the screen just stays on "nextar" do i have 2 buy a new one or is there a way i can fix it?
