How do I fix my RCA VHS, all I get is a snowy pic and no sound?

I have an RCA VRA915AZ. It is nolonger showing a picture except for grey black and white snow, I am also getting no sound. This started only when recording but now is even playing a standard pretaped video

I would guess that either your video head is very dirty (try a cleaning tape or getting it professionally cleaned) or if this problem has come on gradually over quite a long period, that the video head may just be worn out. Is is very old?
