I have a Belkin ADSL Modem with Wireless-G Router.

For the last few months it has started to cause problems. The unit itself seems to get hotter than an electrical item should in my view. When it is hot like this it drops my ADSL connection which obviously means that I cannot connect to the internet.

Also when it is hot it causes quite loud crackling on my phone line. (You can prove it is the Belkin unit causing this because if you unplug the Belkin from the ADSL Filter the crackling instantly stops. Plug it back in and the crackling starts.)

Has anyone else had this problem?

The filters on the phones are to stop them interfering with the ADSL not the other way around. The net of it all is that it shouldn't do it.

have you got a filter on every phone line etc? - this is not normal, except it is normal for wireless routers to get hot where the psu (power-supply-unit) is (it would not be right for it to get hot if the psu is not in the box) as do freeview boxes, speakers etc. when left on for large amounts of time. of course, the very hot weather we have had this summer WILL cause some of them to overheat. this is not right. but they most probably have not been tested for extreme heat conditions (i think that belkin for one only sell certain products in the UK)

Sounds like a power supply problem to me. I'd take it back on the basis that it drops the line and it shouldn't do that. If it is over 12 months old then you may need to look at what warranty you got with it. My Netgear router failed after 2.5 years and Netgear replaced it.
