What worked for me at least twice for a drive that did not play and did not even open it's tray:
With the computer disconnected, remove the drive from the computer.
Turn it over, remove the 4 screws and take out the bottom plate.
Manualy activate the mechanism a few times from the bottom.
Place back the bottom plate and tighten the screws.
Replace in the computer, reconnect and power up.
As I said, it DID work for me with two different drives, a CD and a DVD, but may not work for you.
