floppy drive?

Have a desktop pc, getting on but works ok, is it safe to remove the now defunk floppy disc drive without any problems as this will free up a port.

Safe to remove the drive. Floppy drives are now disfunctional, and most if not all new PC's do not come with a floppy drive anymore.

You can remove it without any risk at all.

The A: and B: drives leters can't be used for any hard drive, but are great to mount network drives.

It will only free up a port, normaly an USB one, if it's an external drive. An internal one connector ONLY work for a floppy drive, but removing the now useless ribon cable will improve the air flow in the case.
